According to records filed with China's State Administration for Market Regulation, BMW (China) Automotive Trading Co., Ltd. and BMW Brilliance Automotive Ltd. will implement five recall campaigns in phases, effective immediately and starting October 30, 2026. Recall No. S2026M0091V: Starting October 30, 2026, BMW will recall certain imported 2 Series, 4 Series, 5 Series, 6 Series, X4, X5, X6, and Z4 vehicles produced between February 22, 2021, and April 29, 2025, totaling 93,071 units. The defect stems from a starter motor manufacturing issue that may cause difficulty starting the vehicle and, in extreme cases, poses a fire risk. Recall No. S2026M0092V: Starting October 30, 2026, BMW Brilliance will recall certain domestically produced 5 Series vehicles manufactured between December 11, 2017, and August 28, 2020, totaling 57,423 units. Recall No. S2026M0093V: Starting October 30, 2026, BMW will recall certain imported 7 Series vehicles produced between June 29, 2016, and January 18, 2018, totaling 364 units. The two recalls above involve insufficient waterproofing of the engine starter relay, which could lead to short circuits and fire hazards after exposure to water. Recall No. S2026M0094V: Effective immediately, BMW Brilliance will recall certain domestically produced X1, X5, and 5 Series vehicles manufactured between May 15, 2023, and April 30, 2024, totaling 157 units. Recall No. S2026M0095V: Effective immediately, BMW will recall certain imported X2, X6, X7, 5 Series, 7 Series, and MINI JCW Countryman vehicles produced between July 6, 2022, and June 25, 2024, totaling 61 units. These last two recalls are re-implementation of previous recall campaigns due to potential operational errors or download anomalies during software updates, which could cause the risk-warning function of the integrated brake booster (DSCi) to fail. All affected vehicles will receive free repairs—either replacement with an improved starter motor or reinstallation of the onboard diagnostic software—to eliminate safety risks.
