Tesla Aims for 24/7 Robotaxi Operations Next Month

On September 6, Ashok Elluswamy, Tesla's head of AI, stated that Tesla’s Robotaxi autonomous ride-hailing service is close to achieving 24/7 operation. Responding to a user’s question on X (formerly Twitter), he said this capability would be rolled out “in about a month” once the “next technology in the v15 plan” is fully integrated. Elluswamy did not disclose specific technical details or clarify whether the feature would initially launch on the Cybercab, the existing Model Y fleet, or both simultaneously. Currently, Tesla’s Robotaxi service operates seven days a week from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily in six U.S. cities: Austin, Dallas, Houston, Miami, Orlando, and Tampa. As of July 2026, the fleet has accumulated over 380,000 miles across two states without any serious accidents caused by the vehicles themselves.
