Tesla Rolls Out Supervised FSD v14.3.9 with Active Intervention During Manual Driving

Tesla began gradually rolling out FSD v14.3.9 (Supervised) on September 6, 2024. The new version introduces an active safety mechanism: under specific conditions, the system can take control of the vehicle even when it is being manually driven by the driver. If an imminent collision is detected and Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) alone is insufficient to avoid the accident, the system can activate FSD to perform evasive maneuvers. Additionally, this feature may also be triggered if the system determines that the driver is severely distracted or if FSD unexpectedly disengages. The system can coordinate steering, braking, and acceleration to execute avoidance actions. When conditions permit, the vehicle may automatically change lanes or steer toward the shoulder, resuming normal driving once the hazard has passed. Tesla emphasizes that this mechanism serves as a last line of defense and does not replace the driver’s responsibility to remain attentive. After completing an evasive maneuver, the vehicle will issue an alert requiring the driver to resume control. This feature requires FSD to be enabled, and users must have either purchased FSD or hold an active subscription. Tesla has not disclosed how frequently the system intervenes or how false triggers are handled. This update does not alter FSD’s classification as a driver-supervised advanced driver-assistance system.
