China’s EV Battery Sales Hit 790.4 GWh in Jan–Jul 2026, Up 37.1% YoY

From January to July 2026, China's cumulative sales of power batteries reached 790.4 gigawatt-hours (GWh), an increase of 37.1% year-on-year. Qu Guochun, Director of the Equipment Industry Development Center under the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, stated that six of the world's top ten power battery manufacturers by installed capacity are Chinese companies, collectively holding over 70% of the global market share—up by 3 percentage points from the previous year. Additionally, the China Automotive Engineering Research Institute has partnered with more than ten leading vehicle and battery enterprises, including Huawei Terminal, CATL, and BYD, to jointly advance technological research. This collaboration has overcome the traditional limitation of only testing new batteries by simulating the state of batteries after durability-related aging and tracking their safety performance throughout their entire lifecycle.
