Smart #2 Camouflage Car Spotted Nationwide, Launch Imminent

On September 5, smart China released official images revealing that camouflaged prototypes of the smart #2 have been spotted on the streets of Beijing, Shenzhen, and Shanghai, signaling an imminent market launch. The vehicle is a two-seater all-electric sedan, whose concept design and partial specifications were first unveiled in June this year. Built on smart’s fully in-house developed ECA architecture, the car features a minimum turning diameter of 6.95 meters. It is equipped with a 35.7 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack, delivering a CLTC-rated range of nearly 400 km and supporting DC fast charging from 10% to 80% in just 20 minutes. The model was listed in the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology’s (MIIT) 410th batch of the “Announcement of Road Motor Vehicle Manufacturers and Products” in August this year and will be produced by Zhejiang Geely Automobile Manufacturing Co., Ltd. It comes in two body lengths—2,751 mm and 2,764 mm—while maintaining a uniform width of 1,669 mm, height of 1,555 mm, and wheelbase of 1,875 mm. The curb weight is 1,130 kg, with a gross vehicle weight of 1,315 kg, and a top speed of 140 km/h. Powering the vehicle is a TZ160XS00A electric motor manufactured by Xingqu Tech (Jiaxing) Co., Ltd., rated at 60 kW. The battery cells are supplied by Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited (CATL), and the battery pack is assembled by Zhejiang JiYao Tongxing Energy Technology Co., Ltd. The car is equipped with an anti-lock braking system (ABS) and an Event Data Recorder (EDR), and offers an optional onboard ETC device.
