Beijing-Shanghai Auto Shows Confirm Schedule: Biennial Rotation to Continue, 2027 Beijing Show to Become Specialized Exhibition

Recently, the Shanghai Council for the Promotion of International Trade and the Automotive Industry Sub-Council of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) reached a consensus on the scheduling arrangements for the Beijing Auto Show and the Shanghai Auto Show. At a special coordination meeting held on September 3, both parties confirmed the continuation of the existing arrangement: the comprehensive Beijing Auto Show will be held in April of even-numbered years, while the comprehensive Shanghai Auto Show will take place in April of odd-numbered years. The auto show scheduled for March 2027 in Beijing will instead be organized as a specialized thematic exhibition and will no longer serve as a comprehensive automotive showcase. Previously, the official Beijing Auto Show website announced in June 2024 that the 2027 event was tentatively scheduled for March 27 to April 5, while the media days for the 2027 Shanghai Auto Show have already been set for April 23–24—less than one month apart. This close timing raised industry concerns over automakers’ exhibition costs, resource allocation, and potential overlap between the two shows. According to the latest coordination outcome, the 2027 Beijing Auto Show will adopt a specialized thematic format to differentiate itself from the comprehensive Shanghai Auto Show, while maintaining the original alternating hosting mechanism. Details regarding the specific focus areas, scale, and participating entities for the 2027 Beijing specialized thematic exhibition have not yet been disclosed.
