BMW recently launched the long-wheelbase i5 in India. The vehicle is produced at BMW's Chennai plant and marks the brand's first locally assembled all-electric model in the country. Currently, only one variant—the eDrive36L M Sport—is available, with an official starting price of INR 7.96 million (approximately RMB 565,000). The locally produced long-wheelbase i5 is priced about INR 4 million (approximately RMB 284,000) lower than the imported i5 M60 xDrive. In terms of features, the car comes equipped with four-zone automatic climate control, ventilated front seats, a 17-speaker Bowers & Wilkins sound system, and eight airbags. It also features adaptive rear air suspension and increased ground clearance. Under the hood, the vehicle is powered by an 81.6 kWh battery pack and a single rear-mounted electric motor, delivering a maximum output of 268 horsepower and accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.7 seconds. According to India’s MIDC testing standards, it offers a maximum range of 669 kilometers. The car supports DC fast charging at up to 160 kW, enabling a charge from 10% to 80% in approximately 33 minutes.
