On the evening of September 8, reports revealed that Porsche is developing a new supercar. If launched, this model would become Porsche’s first supercar since the introduction of the 918 Spyder in 2013. According to sources, Porsche currently favors developing a mid-engine supercar utilizing technology from the limited-edition Audi Nuvolari, which itself incorporates components from the Lamborghini Temerario. Porsche unveiled the Mission X concept car three years ago as a potential all-electric successor to the 918 Spyder, with prospective rivals including the McLaren W1 and Ferrari F80, though the vehicle has yet to reach production. Porsche CEO Michael Leiters stated that the brand currently offers too many variants, resulting in overlap among its models. To reduce costs, Porsche will strengthen collaboration with other brands within the Volkswagen Group moving forward, including developing a new model based on Audi’s PPC premium internal combustion engine platform to replace the combustion-powered Macan. As part of its restructuring, Porsche will cut thousands of jobs and streamline its product lineup. Recently, the company has introduced several special-edition models based on the 911 GT3, including the 100 Jahre Nürburgring, 911 GT3 Bergsport, and 911 GT3 S/C. It is reported that Porsche’s supervisory board will decide whether to proceed with this flagship supercar after the current summer recess. Regardless of whether the new supercar moves forward, the 911 will remain at the core of Porsche’s future product portfolio and will not be converted into a fully electric model. Porsche also plans to further expand its Sonderwunsch bespoke customization program and increase production capacity for such vehicles.
