BMW Brilliance's Neue Klasse i3 40L EV sedan completes MIIT registration

The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has released the new product disclosure for the 411th batch of the "Announcement on Road Motor Vehicle Manufacturers and Products." The BMW i3 40L, a locally produced all-electric sedan by BMW Brilliance Automotive, has completed its application filing. The vehicle is scheduled to launch in Q4 2026. The BMW i3 40L measures 4,864 mm in length, 1,865 mm in width, and 1,490 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,005 mm. Its curb weight is 2,074 kg, and its gross vehicle weight rating is 2,550 kg. It offers seating for five occupants (including the driver) and has a top speed of 200 km/h. The vehicle is equipped with a drive motor (model HD1001N0) delivering a peak power output of 235 kW. It uses a ternary lithium-ion traction battery, with individual battery cells supplied by CATL and the complete energy storage system assembled by BMW Brilliance Automotive. Optional features include wheels of different designs and brake calipers in various colors. Tire specifications are 245/40 R20 and 255/40 R20. The car comes standard with an anti-lock braking system (ABS), model IBC2, manufactured by ZF Group. It also offers an optional ETC onboard unit and is equipped with an Event Data Recorder (EDR). BMW previously disclosed detailed specifications for the vehicle: nine exterior paint options—Matte Space Silver, Space Silver, Isle of Man Green, Eucalyptus Green, Le Castellet Blue, Flame Red, Polar Day Grey, Carbon Black, and Mineral White—and four interior combinations: Phantom White; Crystal Lavender/Atlas Grey two-tone; Amber Brown/Mist White two-tone; and Amber Brown/Atlas Grey two-tone. In terms of equipment, the new model offers heated, ventilated, and massaging seats. The panoramic fixed glass roof features triple-layer silver-coated low-emissivity glass with 99.9% UV protection. Rear passengers benefit from a wireless charging armrest, and the car is equipped with a Harman Kardon audio system. It runs BMW Panoramic iDrive, supporting horizon-level panoramic display, 3D head-up display, and a driver-focused central control layout. The steering wheel integrates physical buttons with capacitive touch feedback. The vehicle is powered by BMW’s Neue Klasse electric drive system, offering over 1,000 km of CLTC-rated range. It features large cylindrical battery cells and a full-domain 800V high-voltage architecture, enabling it to gain more than 400 km of range within just 10 minutes of charging.
