BMW i7 EV sedan enters production at Chennai plant

On September 13, it was reported that BMW has recently commenced production of the all-electric i7 sedan at its Chennai plant in India. Prior to this, the BMW i7 was exclusively manufactured at the Dingolfing plant in Germany. The localization of i7 production in India coincides with the launch of the 2027 model year 7 Series. The version now in local production is the 2027 i7 50 xDrive, officially priced at ₹19.5 million (approximately RMB 1.372 million at current exchange rates). The high-performance i7 M70 xDrive variant remains fully imported, with a price tag of ₹26.5 million (approximately RMB 1.864 million at current exchange rates). Earlier this month, BMW also launched the long-wheelbase i5 in India. Produced locally at the Chennai plant, it marks BMW’s first all-electric vehicle assembled in India. Currently, only one trim—the eDrive36L M Sport—is available, with an official price of ₹7.96 million (approximately RMB 560,000 at current exchange rates).
