Domestic EV Battery Installations Reach 79.0 GWh in August 2026, Up 26.3% Year-on-Year

China Automotive Battery Innovation Alliance Releases Monthly Data on Power Batteries for August 2026 In terms of production, the combined output of power and energy storage batteries in China reached 237.0 GWh in August 2026, up 8.8% month-over-month and 69.8% year-over-year. From January to August 2026, cumulative production totaled 1,523.9 GWh, an increase of 57.0% year-over-year. Regarding sales, total sales of power and energy storage batteries amounted to 223.1 GWh in August 2026, rising 20.5% month-over-month and 65.9% year-over-year. Of this, power battery sales reached 146.8 GWh, accounting for 65.8% of total sales and growing 48.5% year-over-year; energy storage battery sales stood at 76.3 GWh, representing 34.2% of total sales, surging 114.3% year-over-year and 36.0% month-over-month. Cumulative sales from January to August 2026 totaled 1,387.7 GWh, up 50.7% year-over-year, with cumulative energy storage battery sales reaching 450.5 GWh, a year-over-year increase of 83.8%. On exports, combined exports of power and energy storage batteries totaled 42.4 GWh in August 2026, up 20.4% month-over-month and 87.5% year-over-year, accounting for 19.0% of that month's total sales. Specifically, power battery exports reached 24.7 GWh, making up 58.2% of total exports and increasing 64% year-over-year; energy storage battery exports amounted to 17.7 GWh, or 41.8% of total exports, soaring 134.2% year-over-year. From January to August 2026, cumulative exports totaled 259.0 GWh, up 49.6% year-over-year, representing 18.7% of cumulative sales. In terms of vehicle installation volume, domestic power battery installations reached 79.0 GWh in August 2026, up 5.9% month-over-month and 26.3% year-over-year. Among these, LFP (lithium iron phosphate) battery installations totaled 67.6 GWh, accounting for 85.6% of the total and growing 31.0% year-over-year; ternary battery installations reached 11.0 GWh, representing 14% of the total, up 0.9% year-over-year but down 1.0% month-over-month. Cumulative installations from January to August 2026 totaled 489.1 GWh, an increase of 17.0% year-over-year. Of this, cumulative LFP battery installations reached 402.7 GWh, accounting for 82.3% of the total and growing 18.3% year-over-year; cumulative ternary battery installations totaled 85.6 GWh, or 17.5% of the total, up 10.6% year-over-year.
