BMW Confirms Plug-in Hybrid Variant for Next-Gen 3 Series, Global Debut at End of September

On September 15, 2026, Sergio Solero, President and CEO of BMW Italy, confirmed at the 2026 Turin Motor Show that the next-generation 3 Series (G50) will be offered as a plug-in hybrid, retaining a plug-in hybrid powertrain comprising an internal combustion engine, electric motor, and battery pack. BMW has not yet disclosed specific details for the G50 plug-in hybrid variant, including its specifications, battery capacity, or all-electric range. The current G20 330e is powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine, with the electric motor integrated into an 8-speed automatic transmission and a usable battery capacity of 19.5 kWh. The system delivers a combined output of 292 horsepower and 420 N·m of torque. Under WLTP standards, the current 330e sedan achieves a maximum all-electric range of 101 km, while the xDrive version reaches 96 km. Regarding diesel powertrains, BMW has not announced specific plans. The M340d will not receive a successor model, and the B57 engine will no longer be used in the 3 Series. The next-generation 3 Series will make its global debut at the end of September, followed by production at BMW’s Dingolfing plant in Germany. BMW previously confirmed it will also launch the i3 Touring (NA1).
