First Automotive RISC-V Industry Standard Development Launched with 34 Companies Participating

On September 16, at the 6th Intelligent Automotive Chip Ecosystem Conference 2026, Yan Mingkai, Technical Director of China Auto Chip (Shenzhen) Technology Co., Ltd., delivered a keynote speech. Yan introduced that in January 2024, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) released the "Guidelines for Building the National Automotive Chip Standards System," outlining 79 standards. The Automotive Chip Standards Research Working Group under the Automotive Standardization Committee was established in 2021, bringing together over 140 organizations. In November 2025, with support from the China Automotive Chip Certification Consortium (CACC), research into standardization requirements for automotive RISC-V chips officially commenced, culminating in the release of the "Report on Standardization Requirements for Automotive RISC-V Chips" in July 2026. Yan revealed that work has already begun on the first RISC-V industry standard in the automotive sector—QC/T "General Technical Specification for Fifth-Generation Reduced Instruction Set Computing Architecture (RISC-V) Automotive Chips." This standard primarily sets technical specifications for Profile and single-core IP, establishing a baseline consensus for design and application, with 34 companies from home and abroad participating in its development. Yan stated that the overall standardization roadmap will be implemented in two phases: Phase One focuses on profile constraints for base and extension instruction sets and CPU core requirement specifications; Phase Two will advance interface and integration standardization at the system integration level, as well as develop compatibility testing methodologies, aligning with both domestic and international RISC-V standards. Yan also noted that CACC was founded in September 2023, comprising over 140 member organizations and housing four working groups including one dedicated to RISC-V. Subsequent verification of general specifications and preliminary research for Phase Two standards will be carried out within this consortium.
