On October 29, McLaren hinted at a promotional event in London that its planned 2027 successor to the 750S may be named the McL 820. The car will be the first all-new regular production model launched by McLaren after its acquisition by Abu Dhabi investment fund L'imad. The limited-edition McL 6GT equipped with a manual gearbox was the first to adopt the new "McL" prefix naming convention, and the McL 820 teaser indicates that this prefix will extend to McLaren's core models. In terms of powertrain, McLaren has for the first time independently developed and produced two all-new hybrid systems, one of which will be used in the McL 820 and is expected to be based on a V8 engine. Under McLaren's model naming convention, "820" is expected to represent an output of 820 horsepower. The McL 820 will take the place of the 750S. The 750S's model line, which evolved from the original 720S to the final special edition 788HS, will be discontinued in 2027 after nearly 10 years on the market. McLaren recently announced that it has begun accepting orders for the final batch of 750S models. The McL 820 is expected to launch as McLaren gradually phases out two other core models, the V6-powered Artura and GT. McLaren also plans to build a second factory in the UK, begin assembling engines in-house and launch more new models. The future product lineup will revolve around three directions: traditional supercars, a front-engined SUV, and ultimate-series models such as the W1 produced in limited numbers. McLaren Chief Operating Officer Strawn said: "A small company like McLaren cannot afford the cost of stopping production. But we will roll out new products as quickly as possible, and the arrival of new cars is not far off."
