Dongfeng Motor in Talks with CATL for First Use of Third-Generation Shenxing Superfast Charging Battery, Plans Joint Venture

On November 3, according to multiple independent sources, Dongfeng Motor has been in negotiations with CATL since the second quarter of 2026, seeking to secure the first-mounting rights for the third-generation Shenxing super-fast-charging battery. Reports indicate that Dongfeng Motor and CATL plan to form a joint venture to cooperate, in exchange for a say in battery supply, first-mounting rights for new batteries, and supply guarantee commitments. The third-generation Shenxing super-fast-charging battery was released in April 2026, featuring "6 minutes to a confident full charge," with an average internal resistance of 0.25mΩ, 50% lower than other super-fast-charging batteries in the industry. Gao Huan, Chief Technology Officer of CATL, revealed that the third-generation Shenxing super-fast-charging battery is expected to be implemented in the fourth quarter of 2026. Gao Huan also mentioned that 5C and other batteries will soon be popularized in models priced at 60,000 to 100,000 yuan.
