In 2025, BYD registered 187,657 new vehicles in the European market, a year-on-year increase of 268.6%. According to data released by the European Automobile Manufacturers' Association (ACEA) on January 27, the statistics cover the European Union as well as the United Kingdom, Iceland, Norway, Switzerland, and Liechtenstein. Within the EU alone, BYD’s vehicle registrations surged by 227.8% year-on-year, with its market share jumping from 0.4% in 2024 to 1.2%. The report noted that Chinese automakers are gaining increasing recognition among European consumers thanks to their extensive product portfolios and strong value-for-money offerings. Meanwhile, the overall penetration rate of new energy vehicles (NEVs) in the EU continues to rise: in 2025, battery electric vehicles (BEVs) accounted for 17.4% of new vehicle registrations, while plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) reached 34.5%, causing the share of conventional internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles to drop to 35.5%. Notably, in December 2025, BEVs captured 22.6% of the EU’s monthly new vehicle registrations—marking the first time their monthly market share surpassed that of gasoline-powered cars.
