Audi will revive the "A2" nameplate with an all-new entry-level electric hatchback, set to debut as early as the end of this year and go on sale in early 2025. The new model carries forward the original A2’s one-box design proportions, featuring a short front overhang and split rear tailgate glass, giving it a more crossover-oriented aesthetic. Positioned to replace both the A1 and Q2—both of which are expected to be discontinued by the end of 2026—the new A2 will start at around £30,000 (approximately RMB 285,000), making it Audi’s most affordable all-electric vehicle. Initially slated to use Audi’s 800V SSP architecture, the project was later shifted to Volkswagen’s MEB platform—the same underpinning the ID.3—operating at 400V with rear-wheel drive. Battery options range from 58 to 79 kWh, delivering power outputs between 168 and 282 horsepower. The top-spec variant is expected to achieve a range exceeding 595 km (WLTP). Audi has clarified that the new A2 isn’t intended to compete directly with the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer. Instead, it aims to fill the market gap left by the discontinuation of the BMW i3, while also drawing inspiration from the Mercedes-Benz A-Class’s “flat-floor sandwich platform” to optimize interior space utilization.
