BYD recently revealed significant progress in solid-state and sodium-ion battery technologies. The company is focusing on sulfide-based solid-state batteries, which it believes hold breakthrough potential in terms of cycle life and fast-charging capabilities, with small-scale mass production expected by 2027. Meanwhile, BYD has launched its third-generation sodium-ion battery technology platform, successfully addressing issues related to sodium dendrite formation and high-temperature performance. The new batteries achieve a cycle life of up to 10,000 cycles, and their mass production will depend on market demand. With nearly 30 years of experience in battery R&D, BYD possesses end-to-end capabilities spanning research, development, and manufacturing across multiple domains, including traction batteries, energy storage, and next-generation battery technologies. Currently, other companies such as CATL, Geely, and Hongqi are also actively advancing sulfide-based solid-state battery development, intensifying competition in the sector.
