Harry Bathe, Geely’s UK sales chief, stated that local production in the UK “would make a lot of sense” and would be actively pursued if the scale becomes financially viable. Mike Yang, Managing Director of Geely UK, emphasized that production decisions are driven not only by cost considerations but also by customer experience and overall operational efficiency. Additionally, Reuters reported that Geely is in discussions with Ford about leveraging Ford’s underutilized manufacturing capacity in Europe for vehicle production, potentially covering both complete vehicle assembly and joint R&D efforts. Ford’s Cologne plant has an annual capacity of 250,000 vehicles but is currently operating below full capacity. Meanwhile, Chery has already established its European headquarters in Liverpool and is reportedly in talks with Jaguar Land Rover regarding potential vehicle production in the UK.
