Subaru has announced a recall of 69,153 vehicles, including the 2025 Forester Hybrid and 2026 Crosstrek Hybrid models, due to a risk of fire caused by fuel leakage from the fuel tank cap under high ambient temperatures. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) stated that when the fuel tank is nearly full and ambient temperatures rise significantly, pressure inside the tank can increase, potentially leading to fuel leakage. Subaru launched an investigation after identifying the issue in late last year, successfully replicated the problem, and confirmed that insufficient sealing of the fuel tank cap was the primary cause. No accidents or injuries related to this issue have been reported to date. Subaru will replace the fuel tank cap free of charge with a new one featuring an O-ring and an improved gasket. Until repairs are completed, owners are advised to keep their fuel level at or below 50% and park their vehicles outdoors whenever possible. Subaru will notify affected owners within the next 60 days to schedule recall repairs.
