BYD recently unveiled its second-generation Blade Battery and flash-charging technology, drawing significant industry attention. Yin Tongyue, Chairman of Chery Automobile, praised BYD and its chairman Wang Chuanfu for their innovative achievements but also voiced two major concerns: first, that the 1,500 kW ultra-fast charging power is equivalent to the electrical load of a small factory and could cause localized grid fluctuations; second, that frequent fast charging might degrade battery lifespan, leading him to assert that battery swapping remains a more scientifically sound energy replenishment method. In response, BYD stated that its flash-charging technology does not compromise battery longevity and has deployed supporting 370 kWh energy storage cabinets to alleviate grid pressure. These cabinets connect to the grid at only 160 kW, charging during off-peak hours and discharging during peak demand—effectively "shaving peaks and filling valleys"—while also enabling real-time communication with the grid for dynamic power adjustment. Yin also revealed that Chery is developing its own fast-charging technology but remains committed to exploring more scientifically viable energy replenishment solutions.
