Despite controversy, Porsche remains firmly committed to electrifying the next-generation 718 Boxster and Cayman. CEO Michael Leiters stated during a recent earnings call that the model is currently in the testing and development phase, describing it as a "fantastic car." The company plans to unveil more product details in fall 2026, when the production version is expected to debut, with deliveries likely pushed to 2027. Earlier rumors suggesting the project had been canceled were denied by both Leiters and Daniel Schmollinger, Porsche’s head in Australia. Notably, Porsche has revised its original plan to fully replace internal combustion engine (ICE) models with all-electric versions—the ICE-powered 718 will return later this decade, featuring a high-performance six-cylinder flagship variant. Additionally, Porsche is deepening collaboration with Audi—including sharing platforms and technology—to reduce costs and accelerate development, with joint efforts extending to upcoming electric models such as the Audi Concept C.
