On March 5, BYD officially launched its second-generation Blade Battery and flash-charging technology, and announced that trial production has commenced at its Xi-Xian New Energy Vehicle Power Battery Project. Located in Qinhan New City, Shaanxi Province, the facility spans 1,333 mu (approximately 222 acres), with a total investment of RMB 7 billion. It boasts an annual capacity of 16 GWh—sufficient to support around 700,000 new energy vehicles—and is projected to generate annual revenue of RMB 8 billion. The second-generation Blade Battery can charge from 10% to 70% in just five minutes under ambient temperatures, and only requires three additional minutes (eight minutes total) in extreme cold conditions as low as -30°C. Its energy density has increased by over 5%, effectively resolving the industry-wide challenge of balancing ultra-fast charging with high energy density. The plant will utilize fully in-house production processes and a MES (Manufacturing Execution System)-based smart manufacturing system to ensure high-precision production. The project’s operation is expected to attract upstream and downstream enterprises to cluster in the region, enhance local supply chain integration for Shaanxi’s automotive industry, and accelerate the development of a cohesive industrial ecosystem.
