According to the latest data from the European Automobile Manufacturers' Association (ACEA), BYD registered 17,954 new vehicles in Europe in February 2026, a year-on-year surge of 162.3%, marking the second consecutive month it has outsold Tesla. In the EU’s core markets, BYD registered 15,438 units, up a staggering 185.3% year-over-year, capturing a market share of 1.8%. During the same period, Tesla sold 13,740 vehicles, an increase of 29.1% year-over-year, with a market share of 1.6%. Germany and Spain emerged as key growth drivers for BYD: registrations in Germany reached 3,053 units, soaring by 1,550.3% year-over-year, with its all-electric models already surpassing Tesla in sales; in Spain, BYD sold 3,003 vehicles, achieving a record-high market share of 3.1%. Leveraging its dual strategy of offering both battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), along with competitively priced models like the Dolphin, BYD is rapidly gaining ground in Europe’s EV market. In contrast, Tesla, which focuses solely on BEVs, offers a relatively limited model lineup. Currently, new energy vehicles account for more than one-third of total vehicle sales in Europe, while the market share of internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles has dropped to 30.6%.
