2026-04-10 14:46:00On April 10, XPeng Group and Fuyao Group jointly held an event titled “Setting a New Global Benchmark for Smart Dimming Privacy Glass – First Mass-Production Delivery of XPeng GX’s AI-Powered Dimming Privacy Glass” at Fuyao’s glass manufacturing campus in Fuzhou. The event marked the official launch and first mass-production delivery of the AI dimming privacy glass. Yu Peng, Vice President of XPeng Automotive Technology Center, and Jiang Bingming, Vice President of Fuyao Group, attended the ceremony. This innovative glass will debut on the XPeng GX. Leveraging LC (liquid crystal) dye technology, it adjusts transparency by controlling molecular alignment via an electric field. Integrated with the vehicle’s electronic/electrical architecture and AI large models, it represents a significant upgrade from “functional glass” to “AI glass.” Inspired by dimmable glass used in aircraft cabins, the two companies co-developed this AI dimming privacy glass to address key user pain points—including glare from intense sunlight, obstructed views caused by physical sunshades, in-cabin privacy needs, and child sun protection—delivering seven core performance advantages: - **Ultra-Fast Dimming**: Response time of just 0.16 seconds; - **Enhanced Privacy**: Light transmittance ranges from 0.6% to 16% in darkest mode, rendering the cabin invisible from outside while maintaining clear visibility from inside; - **Superior Sun Protection**: Blocks 99.9% of UV rays and 99.4% of visible light in dark state; - **Long Lifespan**: Capable of over one million dimming cycles without degradation; - **High Intelligence**: AI automatically adjusts tint levels seamlessly based on external lighting conditions; - **Extra-Large Surface Area**: Six glass panels across the vehicle total 1.88 square meters; - **5-Layer Sound Insulation Structure**: Reduces noise by 3–5 dB compared to tempered glass of the same thickness. During development, the team overcame three major engineering challenges: balancing privacy with optical clarity, ensuring performance stability across extreme temperatures (validated from -20°C to 85°C), and mastering the complex manufacturing process required for large-format LC dimming glass. This smart glass transforms the vehicle cabin from “passive shading” to “intelligent light awareness,” supporting voice-commanded rapid mode switching for diverse scenarios such as resting, working, or traveling with children—significantly enhancing comfort and privacy. This mass production milestone marks the arrival of the AI era for automotive dimming glass.
