The Beijing International Automotive Exhibition, opening on April 24, 2026, is themed “Leading the Era, Shaping the Intelligent Future.” It has attracted over 1,000 companies from 21 countries and regions, showcasing approximately 1,451 vehicles, unveiling 222 new models, and hosting 219 new technology launch events across a total exhibition area of 380,000 square meters. Organizers expect attendance to exceed one million visitors. Despite reaching an all-time high in scale, exhibited vehicles displayed striking similarities in exterior design, feature configurations, and marketing highlights. This homogenization was especially pronounced in the large three-row SUV segment and the five- to seven-seat SUV market. Meanwhile, China’s core intelligent electric vehicle (EV) technologies are gaining widespread adoption by global automakers. Intelligent driving algorithm providers such as Horizon Robotics, Momenta, and Huawei’s Qiankun, along with smart cockpit and automotive electronics suppliers like Huayang Group and SemiDrive Technology, have become key partners for overseas carmakers. Several multinational automakers have already initiated joint development projects with Chinese firms: Volkswagen has formed joint ventures with Horizon Robotics, Thundersoft, and XPeng; Ford and Tesla have secured battery technology licensing from CATL; and Toyota, BMW, and Audi have adopted Momenta’s intelligent driving solutions. China dominates the global EV battery industry—six of the world’s top ten battery manufacturers by installed capacity in 2025 are Chinese companies, collectively holding over 70.4% of the global market share. Additionally, Chinese automakers such as Geely, Changan, and Chery have introduced new hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) solutions that balance fuel efficiency and performance, and are now exporting these technologies back to international markets. The global automotive supply chain is shifting from a “China+1” strategy to a “US+1” model—building localized supply chains specifically for the U.S. market while adopting China-centric technological solutions across the rest of the world. China has now established end-to-end capabilities spanning vehicle definition, core components, and intelligent systems, elevating its technological exports from product-level trade to system-level collaboration. The design convergence observed at this year’s auto show reflects the overall elevation of industry benchmarks amid intense domestic competition. Meanwhile, the proactive adoption of Chinese technological solutions by overseas automakers marks a new phase for China’s automotive industry—one transitioning from manufacturing exports to systematic, technology-driven global partnerships.
