2026-05-02 14:51:08On the first day of the May Day holiday (from 00:00 to 24:00 on May 1), nationwide expressways recorded a new energy vehicle (NEV) charging volume of 23.0339 million kilowatt-hours, up 55.6% year-on-year, with over 946,300 charging sessions—setting a new historical record for the same period in previous years. On that day, a total of 57,600 highway charging facilities were connected to the National Charging Infrastructure Monitoring Service Platform. Meanwhile, nationwide expressway traffic volume is estimated to have reached 70 million vehicle trips on May 1, potentially marking the highest single-day traffic volume ever recorded during the May Day holiday. Throughout the entire May Day holiday period (from 00:00 on May 1 to 24:00 on May 5), tolls will be waived for small passenger vehicles with seven seats or fewer traveling on toll expressways. Total cross-regional population movement across the country during the holiday is projected to reach 1.52 billion person-trips, an increase of 4% compared to last year, with an average daily expressway traffic volume of approximately 64 million vehicle trips. Relevant authorities will continue strengthening monitoring of expressway charging infrastructure and dynamically allocating emergency charging resources to ensure reliable charging services for the remainder of the holiday.
