2026-05-19 11:48:00On May 19, Sun Huajun, a senior executive responsible for BYD’s battery business, clarified misconceptions that the company relies solely on lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries and lacks diversity in its battery technology portfolio. He stated that BYD is simultaneously investing in research and development across multiple battery technologies, including sodium-ion, ternary lithium-ion, and LFP batteries, although resource allocation varies among these pathways. Additionally, the company is exploring cutting-edge technologies such as anode-free and all-solid-state batteries, even if their commercialization may not occur in the near term. Sun emphasized that such research deepens the understanding of interfacial reaction mechanisms in batteries, thereby enhancing knowledge of existing liquid lithium-ion batteries and contributing greater diversity and depth to the overall advancement of battery technology. Currently, technologies like sodium-ion batteries are in the early stages of research.
