On May 24, Citroën announced that its iconic 2CV model will make a comeback as a fully electric vehicle. The new EV is set to debut at the 2026 Paris Motor Show and enter production in 2028 at the Pomigliano plant in Italy. Retaining the original 2CV’s retro design language, the electric version preserves its rounded silhouette and friendly styling while emphasizing core attributes such as affordability, lightweight construction, practicality, and versatility. With an expected starting price of €15,000, it will be positioned below the European-market BYD Dolphin and is poised to become one of the most affordable electric vehicles in Europe. The electric 2CV is part of Stellantis Group’s “E-Car” strategy, which aims to introduce low-cost compact EVs tailored for the European market to leverage emission benefits offered by the EU’s “super credits” policy. Stellantis plans to launch a total of 110 new models by 2030, with the 2CV among its key projects. The initiative will be developed in collaboration with Leapmotor and manufactured at the Italian facility. The original 2CV was produced from 1949 to 1990, achieving cumulative sales of over 5 million units.
