Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone recently announced that Dongfeng Motor’s next-generation solid-state battery will enter mass production and be installed in vehicles in the second half of 2026. This oxide-polymer composite semi-solid-state battery, independently developed and manufactured by Dongfeng, achieves an energy density of 350 Wh/kg. It has already been integrated into the Dongfeng Yipai eπ007 model, delivering a CLTC-rated range exceeding 1,000 kilometers, along with advantages such as high-temperature resistance, crush resistance, and excellent low-temperature performance. The year 2026 is widely regarded as the inaugural year for mass production of semi-solid-state batteries, with the industry adopting a pattern of “large-scale commercialization of semi-solid-state batteries and small-batch validation of all-solid-state batteries.” Currently, all-solid-state batteries still face significant technical and industrialization challenges, including high interfacial impedance, low manufacturing yield, and high costs. Beyond Dongfeng, other major automakers and battery manufacturers have also laid out clear strategies: CATL is focusing on the sulfide-based route, with its semi-solid-state battery achieving 360 Wh/kg; it plans to begin deliveries in Q3 2026, while small-batch trial production of its all-solid-state battery is expected in 2027, aiming for large-scale commercialization around 2030. GAC Group is employing an oxide-based solid electrolyte combined with sponge silicon anode technology, achieving a cell-level energy density of 400 Wh/kg, and plans to initiate small-batch vehicle integration trials in 2026, followed by gradual scale-up in 2027. BYD is pursuing a dual-track strategy covering both semi-solid-state and all-solid-state technologies: its semi-solid-state battery will be deployed in the updated U8 model under the Yangwang brand in Q4 2026, while batch demonstration installations of its all-solid-state battery are expected to commence in 2027.
