Contract negotiations between Stellantis and Canadian union Unifor are currently paused. The two sides had originally aimed to reach a tentative agreement by September 11, but no progress was made, and Unifor’s National Negotiating Committee will now discuss next steps. The talks concern the future of the Brampton Assembly Plant in Ontario, Canada. The facility was initially slated to produce the redesigned Jeep Compass, but due to trade tensions between Canada and the United States, Stellantis decided to shift production of the model to the U.S. In August 2026, Unifor revealed that Stellantis had informed the union it was considering closing the plant and selling it to a third party. Following this, Stellantis signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Canadian armored vehicle manufacturer Roshel. Unifor stated that no tentative agreement will be reached unless Stellantis presents an acceptable solution. Stellantis said its collaboration with Roshel aims to restart operations at the Brampton Assembly Plant and prevent prolonged idling. Roshel plans to create over 2,000 jobs through the project, with laid-off Unifor members receiving priority consideration for these positions.
