On April 18, Nanjing’s Virtual Power Plant (VPP) management platform announced significant progress: it has connected 20 operators, aggregated over 4,300 users, and secured a reported adjustable capacity exceeding 300 megawatts—equivalent to a large-scale green peaking power plant. By integrating distributed energy resources, including electric vehicles (EVs) and industrial electricity-consuming equipment, the platform enables centralized management and intelligent dispatch to address peak and off-peak grid load fluctuations. The project prioritizes pilot initiatives for Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) technology, allowing EV owners to charge during off-peak hours and feed electricity back into the grid during peak periods, thereby reducing their electricity costs and generating revenue. Meanwhile, industrial parks adjust production schedules based on dynamic electricity price signals updated every 15 minutes, shifting high-energy-consuming processes to off-peak periods to lower electricity expenses and alleviate grid stress. Among Jiangsu Province’s first batch of 100 virtual power plant projects, Nanjing accounts for 10. With the growing number of EVs and increasing participation from enterprises, the city’s VPP capacity is expected to continue expanding.
