On April 19, 2026, Tesla announced the official launch of its Robotaxi service in Houston and Dallas, Texas—marking its first expansion into new cities following initial deployments in Austin and San Francisco. Tesla shared service area maps for both cities via its official X account: Houston’s geofenced zone covers approximately 25 square miles, while Dallas service is concentrated around Highland Park. By comparison, Austin’s operational area already spans roughly 245 square miles. Tesla did not disclose details regarding fleet size, whether safety drivers are onboard, pricing models, or specific operating hours for the new launches. Since the Austin Robotaxi service began operations, it has reported 15 collision incidents, indicating a relatively high accident rate. The service currently relies on a highly supervised remote-driving model, which incurs substantial oversight costs and limits fleet scalability. Industry observers note that without concrete operational data to support it, this expansion appears more marketing-driven than indicative of significant technological progress.
