BYD has unveiled official images of the Dolphin G, a model specifically developed for the European market. Featuring a two-box hatchback design, the vehicle boasts a clean front fascia and sharp headlights. The Dolphin G is powered by BYD’s fifth-generation DM plug-in hybrid system, combining a 1.5L engine with an electric motor. It delivers an all-electric range of 90 km under WLTP conditions and a combined range exceeding 1,000 km. This powertrain is tailored to Europe’s urban environment—characterized by sparse public charging infrastructure and dense historic neighborhoods—enabling a “short trips on electricity, long trips on fuel” usage pattern. Measuring 4.16 meters in length, the Dolphin G is positioned as a B-segment plug-in hybrid hatchback, competing directly against mainstream European small cars such as the Toyota Yaris and Renault Clio. It is expected to be priced at around €20,000. Stella Li, Executive Vice President of BYD, stated that the model was developed exclusively for Europe and there are currently no plans to introduce it in the Chinese market. The Dolphin G will make its official debut in June, followed by its overseas premiere at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in the UK in July, with deliveries commencing in the autumn. Should it perform well in Europe, BYD may consider introducing it to China in the future.
