On May 27, Dongfeng Yipai M8 made its global debut, featuring Huawei's Qiankun ADS 5 Pro intelligent driving system and supporting urban NCA (Navigation-guided Cruise Assist) functionality. The vehicle features a raised structure at the center of the roof that resembles an external LiDAR unit; however, it is actually a blue indicator light—a design choice that has sparked online discussions. Yu Yuefeng, General Manager of Dongfeng Yipai’s Marketing Division, stated that the Huawei Qiankun ADS 5 Pro solution was selected during the product definition phase, with its LiDAR seamlessly integrated inside the windshield for higher integration. He explained that because users expressed a desire for a visible element representing the LiDAR, the team evaluated multiple design options before settling on the current “little blue light” approach. Yu emphasized that Yipai is committed to building friendly relationships with users and believes technology should enhance users’ daily experiences rather than serve as a platform for technical lecturing. Through online conversations, users have come to understand the in-cabin LiDAR solution and have embraced this design.
