At the 4th Future Mobility Pioneer Conference held in Shenzhen on May 29–30, 2026, Pony.ai founder and CEO Peng Jun delivered a speech. He pointed out that the fundamental difference between autonomous vehicles and traditional consumer vehicles lies in the assignment of primary responsibility: for conventional vehicles, the driver inside the car bears primary responsibility, whereas for autonomous vehicles, the vehicle itself assumes this role. Peng emphasized that safety remains the foremost foundation for the development of autonomous driving technology and stated that Pony.ai’s autonomous driving system has an accident rate nearly ten times lower than that of human-driven vehicles.
