On May 31, BYD’s roll-on/roll-off vessel “Jinan” departed from Nantong Port in Jiangsu Province, carrying 7,273 new energy vehicles bound for European countries including Italy and Spain. This shipment set a new record for China’s largest single-brand, single-vessel automotive export in one shipment. The exported models include the Dolphin G DM-i, Yuan UP DM-i, and Song PLUS DM-i. BYD continues to see strong order growth in the European market, with delivery lead times for several plug-in hybrid models now extending to three to six months or more. In France, customers ordering the Yuan UP DM-i face a wait of at least four months, while delivery times in Spain have reached five to six months. In March this year, BYD sold 4,465 vehicles in Spain, and the Yuan UP DM-i has become the best-selling plug-in hybrid model in countries like Italy and Spain. This year, BYD has aggressively rolled out its DM-i plug-in hybrid models in Europe, aligning closely with local market demand. Following its European debut in February, the Yuan UP DM-i quickly ramped up sales, reaching 8,000 units exported in April alone. The Dolphin G DM-i, launched on May 26, is positioned as a B-segment hatchback plug-in hybrid with a combined range of 1,000 kilometers. It is scheduled to go on sale in Europe in June, with deliveries beginning in the autumn. In April 2024, BYD exported 135,000 vehicles overseas, a 70% year-over-year increase, setting a new monthly export record. Total exports for the first four months exceeded 450,000 units, accounting for over 40% of the company’s total sales volume. Currently, Chinese brands have surpassed a 15% market share in Europe for the first time, with BYD being one of the key drivers behind this milestone.
