From January to April 2026, global vehicle sales totaled 30.96 million units, of which 6.65 million were new energy vehicles (NEVs), accounting for 21.4% of total global vehicle sales. Among NEVs, battery electric vehicles (BEVs) represented 14.7%, plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) accounted for 6.7%, and conventional hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) made up 7.9%. During the same period, Chinese NEV passenger cars captured a 61% share of the global NEV market. Specifically, China accounted for 56% of the global BEV market and 71% of the global PHEV market. Additionally, NEV sales in countries and regions outside China reached a combined 2.63 million units from January to April 2026, an increase of 25% year-over-year. Driven by a notable recovery in the European market, strong export performance of Chinese independent-brand NEVs, and shifts in the U.S. market, the overseas market share of Chinese independent-brand NEV passenger cars has continued to rise—from 15.8% in 2025 to 23% in the first four months of 2026.
