On May 29, 2026, at the Greater Bay Area Auto Show, SAIC Volkswagen officially launched two plug-in hybrid models—the Passat ePro and Tiguan L ePro—and unveiled comprehensive details of its first mid-size intelligent plug-in hybrid sedan under the new ID. ERA series: the ID. ERA 5S. The vehicle is scheduled to hit the market in Q3 2026. Positioned as a “German-engineered ultra-hybrid intelligent family sedan,” the ID. ERA 5S measures 4,836 mm in length, 1,880 mm in width, and 1,505 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,766 mm—placing it between the Lamando L and Passat in size. The car features semi-flush door handles, 19-inch wheels, and a dedicated blue indicator light for advanced driver assistance, highlighting its intelligent identity. Powered by Volkswagen’s latest plug-in hybrid system, it delivers a CLTC-rated all-electric range of 160 km, a combined range exceeding 2,000 km, and a remarkably low fuel consumption of just 2.82 L/100 km under depleted-battery conditions. In terms of intelligence, the ID. ERA 5S is the first Volkswagen-branded model equipped with the CoreRun L2++ advanced intelligent driving assistance system. It supports a full suite of functions including urban NOA (Navigate on Autopilot), highway NOA, valet parking, remote-controlled automatic parking, narrow-lane navigation assistance, and path-tracing reverse maneuvers—covering end-to-end scenarios from parking spot to parking spot. Developed under SAIC Volkswagen’s leadership in collaboration with CoreRun, Momenta, and Horizon Robotics, the system leverages Horizon’s chips and HSD algorithms, specifically optimized for China’s complex road conditions. Notably, the ID. ERA 5S is also Volkswagen’s first global model to feature the intelligent driving status visualization blue light. Simultaneously launched alongside the ID. ERA 5S, the Passat ePro and Tiguan L ePro start at a limited-time price of RMB 169,900. Both models are powered by Volkswagen’s “Golden Ultra-Hybrid” powertrain—a combination of the EA211 1.5T high-efficiency hybrid engine and the TQ251 hybrid transmission—enabling seamless, imperceptible switching among four operating modes: pure electric, range-extended, direct drive, and energy recuperation. They are compatible with 92-octane gasoline. The Passat ePro offers a CLTC all-electric range of 157 km, a combined range of 1,468 km, and a depleted-battery fuel consumption of 3.6 L/100 km; the Tiguan L ePro delivers 143 km of electric range, 1,423 km of total range, and 4.33 L/100 km under battery-depleted conditions. Both are equipped with a 22 kWh lithium manganese iron phosphate + ternary lithium battery pack featuring a “Five-Protection” safety system. The ePro duo also integrates the Zhuoyu Xingyun Intelligent Driving Assistance System, supporting highway NOA, multi-level memory parking, and path-tracing reverse. Their cabins feature dual AI engines—DeepSeek and Baidu’s ERNIE Bot—enabling multi-screen synergy and advanced voice interaction. At the same event, SAIC Volkswagen introduced its “Xingyun ZhiXing” intelligent driving ecosystem. Led by SAIC Volkswagen in product definition and validation, this ecosystem was co-developed through deep collaboration with Zhuoyu Technology, Momenta, and CoreRun, combining Horizon Robotics’ chips with Momenta’s reinforcement learning algorithms to deliver an intelligent driving solution tailored for Chinese road environments. CEOs of all three partner companies participated in the launch via video, underscoring SAIC Volkswagen’s “Joint Venture 2.0” model of deep strategic cooperation. Additionally, SAIC Volkswagen announced that the ID. ERA 9X achieved over 7,000 deliveries in its first month on the market, with more than 10,000 orders locked within one hour of launch. The model will receive an OTA update in Q3 2026 to deploy Momenta’s R7 reinforcement learning world model. At this auto show, SAIC Volkswagen showcased its full lineup spanning ICE, hybrid, and pure electric vehicles, demonstrating its strategic approach of “parallel advancement and equal intelligence for both fuel and electric vehicles.” The company plans to target the premium intelligent NEV segment with the ID. ERA series while covering the mainstream family market with the ePro family, continuously accelerating the iteration of new energy and intelligent technologies.
