SAIC Motor plans to invest €200 million to build an MG-branded automobile plant in the Galicia region of Spain. The facility is designed for an annual production capacity of 120,000 vehicles, with construction scheduled to begin in 2027 and mass production expected to start in 2028. Originally a British automotive brand, MG was acquired by Nanjing Automobile Group in 2005. Following the merger between SAIC Motor and Nanjing Automobile Group in 2007, ownership of the MG brand transferred to SAIC Motor. Today, MG enjoys strong brand recognition across Europe and Commonwealth countries, serving as SAIC’s primary vehicle for overseas market expansion. Establishing this new plant in Spain marks a significant step in deepening SAIC’s European market presence. Once operational, the factory will enhance MG’s competitiveness in Europe and optimize SAIC’s global manufacturing footprint. The project is also expected to generate substantial local employment opportunities and boost regional economic development.
