On June 2, BYD’s self-operated roll-on/roll-off (RoRo) vessel “Zhengzhou” completed its maiden voyage to Australia, arriving at the Port of Melbourne. Departing from Shanghai, China, the ship sailed approximately 9,756 kilometers over 14 days, carrying 4,809 new energy vehicles (NEVs) from BYD and its premium brand Denza—setting a new record for the largest single shipment of electric vehicles ever imported into Australia. Australia’s maritime and port authorities held a welcoming ceremony for the inaugural arrival and presented an official certificate commemorating the milestone. Of the vehicles shipped, more than 2,000 units—over half the total—were two key family-oriented models: the Yuan UP (Atto 2) and the Sealion 07 EV. The remainder comprised several high-end Denza models. BYD deployed its own vessel to alleviate delivery bottlenecks in the Australian market, where surging orders had extended delivery lead times to six to eight weeks. In April, BYD became Australia’s second-best-selling automotive brand, trailing only Toyota. The company plans to deliver 30,000 vehicles in the third quarter and aims for nearly 100,000 units sold in Australia for the full year—almost double its projected 2025 sales volume. In May alone, BYD’s overseas sales reached 160,600 units, accounting for 42% of the group’s total global sales. To date, BYD operates a fleet of eight customized RoRo vessels with an annual shipping capacity of 250,000 to 300,000 vehicles. The deployment of its in-house shipping fleet marks a significant step forward in building a vertically integrated global logistics network, which will support the company’s international expansion and accelerate the global delivery of its new energy vehicles.
