Audi is developing a fully electric successor to the TT, which will be based on Porsche’s new all-electric 718 Boxster platform. The project, now about four years in development, has progressed relatively slowly. Recent spy photos reveal that Audi is still testing mule vehicles modified from the electric Porsche 718, now fitted with more pronounced wheel arches—suggesting a wider track than the Porsche version. In April 2024, Audi announced that production of the new model will begin in 2027 at the Böllinger Höfe plant, which specializes in low-volume vehicle manufacturing. According to this timeline, series production is expected to start in the second half of 2026, leaving Audi with fewer than 600 days to finalize the design and engineering. Rather than being an entirely new, ground-up development, the upcoming Audi model will leverage the Porsche 718 platform. Porsche plans to offer both electric and internal combustion versions of the future 718, while Audi’s TT successor is expected to be available exclusively as a battery-electric vehicle. Specifics of the powertrain remain unclear but may include a lower-output variant of Porsche’s 718 electric motor, paired with an 800V architecture and support for high-speed DC fast charging. Despite sharing its technical underpinnings with the Porsche, Audi will give the new model its own distinct design language. The Concept C unveiled at the Munich Motor Show offered a preview of this direction, featuring a retractable hardtop likely to be retained for production, along with a minimalist interior that won’t rely entirely on screen-based interfaces.
