On June 5, Tao Lin, Vice President of Tesla, explained that Tesla engineers have adopted a chemical tempering process for the vehicle's window glass technology, reducing the inner glass layer thickness to 1.1 millimeters and increasing its hardness by approximately 25%, thereby cutting the vehicle’s total weight by 2 kilograms. Compared with traditional laminated double-pane glass, this solution can reduce the time required to break the window for emergency escape by dozens of times. The technology achieves a thinner, harder, and more easily breakable glass through materials science optimization, though it offers inferior sound insulation compared to laminated double-pane glass.
