Tesla Vice President Tao Lin stated that Tesla employs chemically strengthened glass technology in its window design, reducing the inner glass layer thickness to 1.1 millimeters, increasing overall hardness by approximately 25%, and cutting vehicle weight by 2 kilograms. Compared with the industry-standard laminated double-pane windows (each layer measuring 2.6 millimeters thick), this solution significantly shortens the time required to break a window for emergency escape. In response, Lei Jun, Founder, Chairman, and CEO of Xiaomi Group, announced that Xiaomi’s YU7 and the new SU7 models also use an inner glass layer of chemically strengthened glass measuring 1.1 millimeters thick, within a laminated double-pane structure—enhancing NVH performance and side-window sun protection while ensuring safety and quality.
