Toyota Motor Corporation announced on June 5 that its new vehicle sales in the Chinese market totaled 102,300 units in May, down 31.7% year-on-year, marking the fourth consecutive month of declining sales compared to the same period last year. The decline widened from April's 25.4% drop, primarily due to falling gasoline-powered vehicle sales. In May, "electrified vehicles," including hybrids, accounted for approximately 70% of total new vehicle sales. Battery electric vehicle (BEV) sales reached 13,700 units, more than doubling year-on-year, largely driven by the launch of the new bZ7 model. Meanwhile, Honda China reported May sales of 28,279 units, a 48.7% year-on-year decrease, extending its streak of monthly declines to 28 consecutive months. Nissan Motor has postponed the release of its May China sales figures to after June 8.
