On June 6, FAW Hongqi announced that its first rugged off-road SUV will be officially named the "Hongqi G919." The company explained the naming rationale: the "G" signifies inheriting the backbone of a "national car" and safeguarding long journeys; the first "9" reflects its flagship positioning and premium intelligent manufacturing; the "1" stands for top-tier performance and driving experience; and the final "9" symbolizes comprehensive services and lasting companionship. The vehicle was previously unveiled at the 2026 Beijing Auto Show, featuring a boxy "square-box" silhouette and rectangular headlights. Its exterior is equipped with a bull bar, grille guard, tow hooks, a roof platform, spotlights, a spare tire mounted on the rear door (nicknamed the "little backpack"), and all-terrain (AT) off-road tires. A LiDAR sensor is mounted on the roof, indicating the vehicle is expected to support advanced driver-assistance features.
