June 5, 2026 – Ham, Tessenderlo, Belgium – Melexis has launched the MLX92344, the world’s first 2-bit Hall switch with two-wire output capability. This device eliminates the need for a printed circuit board (PCB) and enables contactless detection of up to four positions, replacing traditional mechanical microswitches. The MLX92344 features fully programmable current output and magnetic thresholds, ensuring backward compatibility with existing two-wire interface systems. Its output current can be configured between 3 mA and 28 mA, typically set at 5 mA, 10 mA, 15 mA, and 20 mA to correspond to four distinct magnetic operate points (BOP1, BOP2) and release points (BRP1, BRP2). It also supports temperature compensation tailored for either neodymium or ferrite magnets. The device can be read via a standard I/O trigger or ADC, requiring only software adjustments to integrate into existing ECUs. Operating from a supply voltage range of 2.7 V to 28 V (with a maximum rating of 32 V), the MLX92344 functions reliably across temperatures from -40°C to +150°C. It is AEC-Q100 qualified and complies with ASIL B SEooC functional safety requirements. Offered in both TSOT23-3L surface-mount and TO92-3L (UA) packages, it provides robust electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection rated at 8 kV (Human Body Model, HBM) and 15 kV at the system level. Device parameters are configured via on-chip non-volatile memory, supporting end-of-line (EoL) programming to eliminate mechanical tolerances and enhance sensing accuracy. Selected variants integrate IMC (Integrated Magnetic Concentrator) technology, enabling detection of lateral magnetic field components and offering greater flexibility in magnet placement. Target applications include seat track position sensing, electronic door/trunk locks, charge port lid status detection, automatic gear shifters, parking locks, disconnect mechanisms, and seat belt buckles. In seat systems, a single MLX92344 can detect three positions, meeting the latest safety standards for airbag deployment. In soft-close mechanisms, it identifies four states: fully open, half-latched, fully latched, and over-push. The MLX92344 is now available.
