Changan Automobile has now entered markets in 14 European countries and is using Spain as a strategic hub for its expansion across Southern Europe. The company has established its largest Southern European headquarters in Alcobendas, within the Madrid region of Spain, occupying approximately 1,000 square meters of office space. This facility oversees core functions including sales, after-sales service, marketing, and finance for both the Spanish and broader European markets. Changan has set clear sales targets: aiming for 40,000 units sold across Europe in 2024, increasing to 100,000 units by 2027, and reaching 300,000 units by 2028. Specifically for the Spanish market, the company expects to achieve sales of 6,000 vehicles by 2026. To date, Changan operates 65 sales outlets in Spain and plans to expand this network to around 100 by the end of 2024. Across Europe, its dealer network already exceeds 300 locations. The company is currently evaluating the feasibility of local production in Europe, with the Aragon region of Spain considered one of the potential sites for a manufacturing plant. Possible collaboration models include building its own factory or partnering with a local automaker, though no final decision has been made yet. On the product front, Changan currently offers two all-electric SUVs in Europe—the Deepal S05 and Deepal 07—and plans to launch four to five new models by the end of 2024, including the newly introduced Deepal S05 PHEV plug-in hybrid variant. The Port of Barcelona serves as its primary entry point into Spain, with logistics support provided by companies such as Noatum and Kuehne + Nagel. In terms of R&D, Changan employs approximately 990 designers globally, over 320 of whom are based in Europe. The company operates design centers in Turin, Italy, and Munich, Germany, and maintains an R&D center in Birmingham, UK. It also collaborates with partners like Bosch and Idiada, continuously advancing its localized “In Europe, for Europe” strategy.
