Maserati is planning to launch a limited-edition supercar equipped with an internal combustion engine and a manual transmission. The initiative is being spearheaded by Maserati’s customization division, Bottega Fuoriserie. Cristiano Fiorio, head of Bottega Fuoriserie, stated that roughly half of the division’s custom clients have explicitly requested the combination of a gasoline engine and a manual gearbox. Fiorio added that Bottega will unveil a new project in the near future and emphasized that manual transmission options must be offered for this series of vehicles. The new car is expected to become Maserati’s most aggressive combustion-powered model since the MC12 and may share certain development efforts with Alfa Romeo’s upcoming special-edition models, continuing the longstanding collaboration between the two Italian brands. Powering the vehicle will likely be Maserati’s existing twin-turbocharged “Nettuno” V6 engine, which produces 630 horsepower without any electric motor assistance and is currently used in the MC20, GranTurismo, and Grecale models. Both Maserati CEO Santo Ficili and Cristiano Fiorio stressed that the Nettuno engine is central to the brand’s identity. They also revealed that the company will develop mild-hybrid and full-hybrid versions in the coming years but will not introduce any plug-in hybrid variants.
