FAW Jiefang and HiNa Battery Technology have made progress in their joint systematic full-condition testing of sodium-ion batteries for heavy-duty trucks. The test vehicle, a Jiefang J6P new-energy battery-electric tractor, is equipped with a 339 kWh sodium-ion battery pack. Over nearly seven months, it has accumulated more than 15,000 kilometers of driving. Under extreme cold conditions of -40°C, the battery retains over 90% of its usable capacity, effectively mitigating the winter range degradation commonly experienced by conventional lithium-ion battery-powered heavy trucks. The vehicle can be fully recharged in 20 to 25 minutes, and the battery demonstrates a cycle life exceeding 8,000 cycles under fast-charging conditions. Thanks to its mild material chemistry and excellent thermal stability, the sodium-ion battery meets the demanding requirements of commercial vehicles, including high-frequency heavy loads, all-weather intensive operation, and high safety standards.
